Geeks are taking over our world of nerds and it is not welcome. The real problem is the misinterpretation of what a nerd is.

Claiming to be a nerd when actually a geek is like claiming to have the flu with only a symptom of aching feet. It is completely ridiculous. Those who really do have the flu could feel as it their pain is insignificant because of it.

So what is a nerd? A nerd is someone who cares deeply about their academics. It is not just a fascination with anything. It is a want to exercise and expand your brain in the great world of academics.

A Geek on the other hand is someone who has a fascination with something in the technological or supernatural world. They are quite obsessed with it and could probably tell you anything about it.

My sister is a fan of minecraft. She plays it all the time and researches everything about it. She cares about it and she learns plenty about it but, it does not further her academics. She would be considered a geek, not a nerd.

The Merriam Webster’s definition further supports this:

A nerd is someone slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits.

A geek is an enthusiast especially in a technological field or activity.

All around I hear people telling their friends how nerdy they are, binge watching the whole TV show or reading all the Superman comic books. That is not a nerd.

True nerds are offended by this rude intrusion into their world. Knowing every single video game ever invented is not nerdy. It is Geeky. Deal with it.
