The Jane Austen club was formed this year by several OHS students. It all started when Mme. Call was grading some papers at the end of the school year and wanted to turn on some background sound.
She asked the class if she could turn on a movie, which just so happened to be one of her favorite Jane Austen movies. Slowly the whole class couldn’t take their eyes off it.
Mme. Call said if anyone wanted to finish the movie they could come by sometime after school and finish; about fifteen students showed up and joked about starting a Jane Austen club. However, when fall came, they actually made their club and are now having monthly activities.
Lily Day said, “Whenever we meet we watch a movie, but it’s also so fun when we talk about the characters and plot twist and wacky olden-day customs.”
The club wants the members to take home an appreciate of different literature but also to have fun and build relationships with others.
Adrienne Hawks said, “I love watching the cheesy romantic scenes with a bunch of girls that love it as much as I do!”
There are over 15 members in the Jane Austen club and anyone is welcome to join. You just come and watch classic movies with people.
Mme. Call said, “ The Jane Austen club can increase unity and develop positive relationships between people. When you share experiences like that people tend to understand each other better and grow closer.”
The Jane Austen club is a great place to go to have a good time with people who share your interest.
