This school year Alpine School District’s winter break is only eleven days long, and this has sparked quite the controversy. Many people spoke out about the shortening of time away from school, but is it really that big of a deal?
Last year the break was fourteen days long. That is only three days longer than this year, but there have been mixed reviews about whether or not it is important.
“Last year we had ten school days off, this year only have six or seven. That is 30% less time off,” said a sophomore when asked about the length of the break.
It is not just the students who are upset about the break being shorter. Many teachers have been complaining about it in class. Multiple teachers have even told their classes to complain to the district if they want it to change.
On the other side of the story, some people don’t care about the three missing days. One senior girl said “I don’t care if I have three more days of school in the middle of the year. It just means that I get to graduate three days earlier.”
