Teachers Look on Social media

Social media and technology is everywhere. Almost all of adults and teens are connected with social media somehow, whether it’s Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat. People have many ways to virtually communicate with friends and family, and have access to many information on the internet by the touch of a screen. Everything has its positive and negative effects.

Mr. Wytiaz said, “Well, I have friends that do not live close to me that I can talk to on social media sites and I could communicate with them in a matter of seconds.”

Mr. Rep also said, “Social media can be very useful because my student can communicate with me and ask me about assignments. Also social media can be a very good way to get a message out.”

With technology changing and every day, phones and devices are becoming smarter which means more information and communication. Student’s main source for information is all online.

Mr. Miller commented, “The information that is available to us is amazing, but there is also a lot of miss information in the media. On social networking we have to be more careful and critical to what we believe in. I ask a question in class and a student will just search up the answer on their phone. Before social media, when I used to leave a place and go somewhere, I was out of touch with the world. And now I can call or communicate with anyone anywhere.”

Mr. Rep added,“Technology moves faster that we do. I remember back then it was such a big deal to have a pager.”

Mr. Wytiaz said, “Technology has become more portable and easier to carry around with you. I’m pretty sure that computer science will creep into any object it can and become new technology. I bet in the next few years, earring will become phones.”

When people are social networking they can be exposed to good information, learning resources up to inappropriate content, hurtful and offensive language.

“There are certain images that get shoved in my face, horrible images! But that’s the cost you pay for being on a social media,” said Mr. Wytiaz

Mr. Rep also said, “Some cons of social media are cyberbullying, and a lot of people being cowards and hiding behind their anonymity. There can also be a lot of weirdo stalkers on social websites”.

Social networking websites can distract us from being productive and getting our work done.

Mr. Miller said, “Being on social media can occupy a lot of your time”.

“We’re on social media sites more than we should be. I feel like our health is suffering from being in front of a screen”. Said Mr. wytiaz

Facebook, Twitter and other sites help connect people and improve social lives and build self-image. According to a website called socialmediatoday.com stated that extreme usage of social media reduces level of human interaction. Because of social networks the interaction with other people has become effortless and people have isolated their lives behind their online identities.

Mr. Miller said, “I don’t believe that by being on a social networking sites make us socially engaged in real life. Its way better to have a real friend that you can talk to face to face rather than having 400 friends on Facebook.”

Technology has become a part of everyday lives; teachers and educators find that people can use media for new opportunities for learning.

“Using media and technology is a good thing. We have to put it into good use, social media and technology is too much a part of people’s lives for us teacher not let students get on their phones. Teachers need to learn how to use technology and media, and use it in the right way to benefit,” stated Mr.Wytiaz

Mr. Miller said, “We have to learn to have self-control, and once we know that we are in control of what we say and do on social media, then we learn that we can do good thing with the power we have with technology and media.”
