We are all (hopefully) aware of the election that just occurred. With this came an amendment to be voted on in the Utah ballot. As a state, we voted on having this change made, which will drastically change the lives of students starting the second semester of the 2024-25 school year.
Starting in January of 2025, the state will increase their public school funding from 4%-5%, which might not seem like a lot. However, the reality that is raising the money from 3.3 billion dollars to 3.4 billion, which, again, may not seem like that much of an increase to many, but it will have huge impacts.
The schools will likely be putting this money towards helping students with disabilities, making their education more fun and accessible for them. It will also be going towards helping students in high school with college prep courses.
Another place this is going is the three-way split of the Alpine School District in the summer of 2027. It will be going towards funding of school busses, lunches, and teacher salaries in these new districts.
While this might not be a lot of information, I’m sure there is more to come that we will find out as time goes on. What is important, however, is that students are made aware that there will be changes coming soon. We may not know exactly what they are, but we have an idea of what they could be, and what they hopefully are.
