Today, Monday, December 16th, 2024 a school shooting took place in Madison, Wisconsin at the Abundant Life Christian School K-12.
Police responded at 10:57 to the 911 calls. Two people were killed as well as the suspected shooter who is a juvenile student at Abundant, who was found deceased by gunshot wound. No officers fired weapons. Police asked people to avoid the area.
The number of injured is unclear. Three news releases have made conflicting numbers of sx and seven wounded. However, all injured have been transferred to a nearby hospital. The injuries range from minor to life-threatening, said Police Chief Shon Barnes. The ages and genders of the dead and injured have not been released.
Parents were seen running into SSM Health urgent care and clinic to retrieve their children, which was serving as the reunification point for the parents.
An ongoing investigation by the ATF (The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) is currently investigation the scene to discover the owner of the firearm.
“That’s going to be a key part of this investigation as well, because we’ve seen, sadly, again, in shootings, that owners of weapons have been held accountable whenever someone underage then goes on to conduct an act of violence,” said CNN correspondent John Campbell.
On Facebook, a post has gone out from the school saying: “Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are following up. We will share information as soon as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family,”
“My heart is heavy for my community. My heart is heavy for Madison,” Barnes said. “We have to come together as a community and figure out what happened here, and make sure that it doesn’t happen in any other place that should be a refuge for students in our community.”
