The halls of Orem High have received a new adornment recently, this time in the form of a large mural that now hangs high on the cafeteria wall. This piece of artwork represents weeks of work and collaboration between both many different departments in the school and an organization working to help kids find school spirit in artwork.

Casey Silver and Dimi Macheras are two artists who work together to produce comic books, and other pieces of artwork that have delighted audiences all around the country. Now, they’re hoping to help students find the same joy in creativity by allowing them to take part in a project that will hang in the halls of the school for decades.

With the help of these artists, Orem’s AP art students and journalism team spent time coming up with ideas that really represented Orem HIgh as a school. Ideas like connection, support and creativity were among the most common themes that students suggested.

When asked about the impact the mural would have on the school, Luke Christenson, a junior said, ¨I think it’s going to be a big moment in the history of Orem, it will be a moment that people remember.¨

¨I think it’s going to be a big moment in the history of Orem, it will be a moment that people remember.¨

Christenson said that he can see aspects of his art in even the beginning designs of the mural, stating that he really thinks that everyone has had a chance to contribute to the mural.

Silver echoed that sentiment, saying that he wants kids to be able to remember the impact school had on them, and that the best way to do that is to let them get involved.

The program run by Casey and Dimi places a big emphasis on student involvement, but the mural project at Orem high school was a place where he pushed the boundaries of collaboration. Orem students were involved in every single aspect of the mural from planning to painting.

Now, this art piece is a part of Orem high school’s history now, representing the hard work and creativity of its students and community.
