On November 6th, 2024, Americans found out that Donald Trump had been re-elected as the 47th president of the United States of America. There are multiple emotions that people were and still are feeling because of this election. Some are feeling excitement and joy, while others are feeling disappointment and misery. There are many questions that are being asked. But the main question people want to know the answer to is, why did Trump win the 2024 election.

There are many reasons as to why this could have happened. After looking around and doing some research, it is clear that one of the main reasons was because of the voting demographics and how they compared to last year.

The voting demographics changed for Trump between the 2020 and 2024 election. Between gender, race, age, and voting history, the overall percentage of votes for Trump was higher than the percentage for Harris. There were some percentages between each of these categories that made a big difference as to who won.

To start off, the overall percentages of votes that had the lowest impact on Trump’s win was between genders leaving Harris down 4% of voters and Trump up 3% of voters between both men and women.

The next highest overall percentages of votes that impacted Trump’s win was between age groups leaving Harris down 7% of voters and Trump up 6% of voters between age groups consisting of ages 18-29, 20-44, 45-64, and 65+.

Here is where the overall percentage of votes mattered more. The overall percentages of votes that had more of an impact on Trump’s win was between if it was a voter’s first time voting or not leaving Harris down 18% of voters and Trump up 22% of voters between both yes and no.

The overall percentages of votes that had the biggest impact on Trump’s win was between different races leaving Harris down 28% of voters and Trump up 26% of voters between white, black, hispanic/latino, asian, and other races.

The results of this election have left Americans wondering why Trump won over Harris and although we don’t know the exact reason as to why he won, knowing how the percentages of votes differentiate from last year will hopefully leave Americans with more understanding and fewer questions.
