Elaine Monson The Tiger Times

Winter BreakThere has been a negativity hanging in the air lately. Almost nobody is happy with the major events going on in our country. But there are still good things to look forward to.

The first of many things that will provide a smile is a new movie coming out from the wizarding world. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them comes out today, November 18. This is great news for fans of the Harry Potter franchise. (Which is most people.)

Next, winter break is only 34 days away. Thanksgiving break is three of those days, and there are also ten days of weekend in there too, so in reality, it’s only 21 days of school between now and then.  That is less than a month.

Evie Spotts,  a senior, said “School is quite stressful and exhausting, but the confusion of it all is cleared away by the fact that I will have freedom in quite a short time for a short time.”

Also, the Baked Bear, a chain of bakeries, is opening a new location closer to Orem. The new store will be in the Lehi Crossing, which is only 15 minutes away, and will be opening on December 16th. The store creates custom ice cream sandwiches and has been highly praised.

Yet another good thing, holiday sales are beginning within the next week.  Black Friday is not just for gift shopping. One junior said that the savings are incentive to: “Treat yourself.” they also pointed out that parents are more likely to things for their children if they are on sale, and almost everything is on sale.

“ A fresh start will be nice,” said Mitch Brown, a senior who has found recent events particularly disheartening, about the upcoming New Year and its celebrations.

There are good things in the future for everyone, and as the wise Albus Dumbledore once said, “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light.”
