Many students at Orem High School fail to take full advantage of their lunch hour by choosing not to eat. According to www.livestrong.com, eating lunch can “re-energize your body and can raise blood sugar levels.”

Ms. Call, French and Chemistry teacher here at OHS, said that in fourth period she can tell who has eaten and who has not. “Kids that don’t eat totally shut down during my class.”
Skipping lunch can lead to “fatigue, poor mental function, and other health concerns,” says www.prevention.com, a health magazine produced by one of the world’s most established healthy lifestyle brands.

Zach Hubert, a junior who almost never eats lunch during school said, “During fourth period, I always feel hungry.” Other students can’t think and they feel physically and mentally drained.

Katie Maguire, a junior who always eats during school, said that after lunch she “feels awake and able to survive until the end of the school day.” She also eats a snack after school, but for her, lunch is imperative to energize her until she gets home.

Students have several excuses for not eating: They don’t have money to buy lunch, they don’t have time in the morning to pack a lunch, or they don’t like the food being served. These are all valid reasons for not eating, but eating lunch is a great way to stay healthy.
