FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and is the only national Career and Technical Student Organization with family as its focus. But those participating in FCCLA are leading in more places than their homes.

Members maximize their leadership potential by learning and being informed, and teaching to others. They serve in both their schools and their communities. They work to make this world a better place and encourage others to be productive members of society like them.

“You become a positive influence for good at home, school, and across the community,” said Pauline Benavides, who is an FCCLA state officer.

A big part of FCCLA is the competitive events, especially STAR Events. Members compete at regional, state, and national levels with projects that they are interested in and customized themselves. This is another way members make positive differences in their communities and learn how become more confident in themselves. These events are also a gateway to awards, recognition, as well as scholarships and a new accomplishment to add to college applications.

Kelsee Black said, “My favorite part is going to STAR Event competitions – nationals is the best.” Members most often mention how much they love going to nationals and how much fun they had. FCCLA gives many opportunities to travel and meet new people.

FCCLA is not preparing members for leadership later in their lives. It is helping them become leaders today.
